The Knock Shoppe is the creation of John and Joanne Knoch — high school sweethearts, happily married for 48 years, and former farmers. An accomplished baker who always made cakes for her children’s birthdays, Joanne decided to enroll in a cake decorating class — and found she had both passion and a natural talent for the details of cake decorating. That led to her making wedding cakes professionally.
Being guests at more than a few weddings over the years, Joanne and John realized that even the most beautifully-designed cakes were often put in dark corners of wedding venues — and they wanted to change that. Joanne developed her first lighted wedding cake stand and patented it in time for an annual wedding show in Madison, WI.
That first stand started their business with a bang — now, there are nearly 50 different cake stand systems in The Knock Shoppe’s inventory — and thousands of happy brides and grooms all over the world whose wedding cakes have been “kissed with light”.
